Direct admission for masters programme in ECU, Australia for RUB graduates

It will be a welcoming news to most Bhutanese student that Edith Cowan University will now accept all students for direct Masters course.


Students with a Bachelor Degree from Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) will now get direct admission into the Edith Cowan University for master’s programme in Perth, Australia.

According to a press release from RUB, the academic board of Edith Cowan University approved the changes in the entry requirements for the masters programme.

Director of Research and External Relations, Dr Phangchung said prospective candidates should obtain minimum 60 percent in average during their undergraduate degree to qualify for the admission. “All Bhutanese meeting entry requirements into post graduate programmes at ECU will receive 20 percent scholarship during the course of their study,” he said.

He said there was an issue earlier where prospective candidates needed to show their four-year degree certificates to do masters. Now student of three years bachelor degree from RUB can get admission for masters programme.

Dr Phangchung said individuals could apply for admission online. “Competency test is a must and an individual has to obtain a minimum score of six in IELTS.”

The government approved the proposal for research and academic collaboration between RUB and ECU in February 2018.

He said that if lecturers need help for his or her research proposal, they could get assistance from ECU.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the two vice Chancellors in August 2018 in Thimphu in the presence of the Heads of School from ECU and heads of Colleges from RUB.

Dr Phangchung said, RUB has already hosted 11 students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, ECU, as part of study aboard student exchange programme at the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB).

The press release states that the change in entry requirements for Bhutanese into ECU master’s degree programmes was extended due to ECU‘s commitment to Bhutan.

“From a partnership standpoint, it is expected to further collaborations between RUB and ECU and strengthen existing academic relationship.”
